Event Details
Catbite is an American ska punk band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 2018. The band is known for its high-energy performances and modern take on ska, blending elements of punk, rocksteady, and two-tone ska.
Catbite was founded by Brittany Luna (vocals) and Tim Hildebrand (guitar), who were inspired by the third-wave ska revival. Luna, originally trained as a jazz singer, transitioned into punk and ska, while Hildebrand had experience working with The Interrupters and playing in The Snails. They later recruited Chris Pires (drums) and Ben Parry (bass), solidifying the band's lineup.
Their self-titled debut album, Catbite (2019), was recorded in just four days with a budget of $400. The band gained traction as ska saw a resurgence, with support from Jeremy Hunter (Skatune Network, We Are The Union) and Mike Sosinski (Bad Time Records). Their second album, Nice One (2021), was well received, leading to performances at WXPN Free At Noon and a feature on NPR's World Cafe podcast.
In 2025, Catbite released the six-song EP Doom Garden, produced by Sarah Tudzin and featuring Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) and Sweet Pill. They also collaborated with Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!) at the 2024 Supernova Ska Festival, performing Operation Ivy covers. A live recording from their Riot Fest Afterparty was later posted on Bandcamp as a fundraiser for victims of the 2025 California Wildfires.
