ANVIL

Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in 1978 in Toronto, Ontario. The band originally started under the name Lips, but changed it to Anvil in 1981 to avoid confusion with the disco act Lipps, Inc. The band consists of founding members Steve "Lips" Kudlow (lead vocals, lead guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums). They have been cited as influential to many notable heavy metal groups, including Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, and Metallica.

Despite their influence, Anvil struggled with commercial success. Their story was captured in the 2008 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, which highlighted their determination and resilience in the face of numerous setbacks. The documentary brought renewed interest to the band, and they have continued to perform and release new music.

As of 2024, Anvil has released twenty studio albums and remains active in the heavy metal scene. Their latest bassist, Chris Robertson, joined the band in 2014
