During last few years, Il Volo have performed all over the world, released massively-selling albums, joined legendary songstress Barbra Streisand on tour and taken the stage for two highly acclaimed PBS specials.
This powerhouse Italian pop opera trio came back to the States immediately following their first Billboard Latin Music Award win for Latin Pop Albums – Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, with nominations both in 2013 and 2014.
Il Volo, discovered by renowned manager Michele Torpedine (Andrea Bocelli), featuring Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble, in such a short time have captured America’s imagination, as well as the World’s, as they embarked on their 2014 U.S. 15-city Summer U.S. tour.
The group brings American audiences their best live performances of pop and traditional songs backed by symphony orchestras - in English, Italian and Spanish, such as their specialized renditions of Surrender, Little Things, Angel, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and Maria.
Il Volo released three albums in 2013 on Interscope Records – We are love, Il Volo’s we are love: live from the filmore Miami beach at Jackie Gleason theater and Buon Natale: the Christmas Album, which hit iTunes’ Top 10 album of the season.
The trio was first introduced to America with their self-titled debut album in April 2011, creating huge numbers as it debuted at #10 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and then went on to sell more than one million copies worldwide.
Il Volo wowed television audiences performing ‘O Sole Mio as special guest performers on American Idol and they guest starred in the final episode of HBO’s Entourage.
The group performed at the 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards, released two PBS Specials, toured with the legendary Barbara Streisand and appeared with her in two of her own PBS specials too.
Formed in 2009, Il Volo first enchanted audiences on a grand scale appearing on the popular Italian musical variety show Ti Lascio Una Canzone in that same year.
After captivating the show’s viewers with their cover of the Neapolitan ‘O Sole Mio, Il Volo instantly stepped into the international spotlight. Quickly landing a worldwide recording deal with Universal Music Group - becoming the first Italian artists to sign with a U.S. label - Il Volo set to work on their debut album in Los Angeles, Rome, and London (where they recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios).
In November 2010 Il Volo released their self-titled debut in Italy, where it was ultimately certified platinum. Upon its worldwide release in April 2011, this inspired collection of standards, opera selections and soulful ballads (such as Diane Warren’s La Luna Hizo Esto and Painfully Beautiful, both written expressly for Il Volo ) debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and eventually climbed to the number 6 slot.
Also reaching the top ten on Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart, Il Volo garnered the attention of the likes of Quincy Jones (who asked the trio to join superstars like Celine Dion and Josh Groban on the charity single We Are The World: 25 for Haiti) and Barbra Streisand (who granted Il Volo the extraordinary honor of requesting their accompaniment on her 2012 tour).
Released in November 2012 - just as Il Volo were wrapping up their tour with Streisand - the group’s second studio album We Are Love pushed further into pop territory while sustaining the classic sensibility at the heart of their sound.
Backed by gorgeously elegant orchestration from the Czech Symphony, Il Volo put their interpretive talents to work on selections as brilliantly varied as Questo Amore (an Italian-language, classical-leaning take on Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing), U2’s powerfully anthemicBeautiful Day, and Luna Nascosta (the theme from the 2012 Mexican romance movie Hidden Moon).
Along with the Diane Warren-penned I Bring You To My Senses, We Are Love also features guest appearances by the great Placido Domingo (on Il Canto, a song dedicated to heavyweight Il Volo influence Luciano Pavarotti) and Italian singer-songwriter Eros Ramazzotti (on the tender piano ballad Cosi).
In May 2013, Il Volo followed up their sophomore release with We Are Love (Special Edition), a 12-track offering that includes the group’s deeply moving renditions of One Direction’s Little Things, Sarah McLachlan’s Angel, Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight, and West Side Story’s Maria.
Not only showcasing their immense vocal gifts and awe-inspiring showmanship on record and on tour, Il Volo have also graced the stages of major TV shows (including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Talk, American Idol, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The Rachael Ray Show), turned up on the final episode of HBO’s Entourage, and appeared at such illustrious events as the 60th annual Sanremo Music Festival (an Italian song competition attended by such luminaries as Queen Rania of Jordan).
What’s more, the group’s debut PBS Special Il Volo Takes Flight has racked up more than 2,100 broadcasts since its original airing in March 2012, while their second special Il Volo: We Are Love won them further acclaim for their vocal prowess and riveting performance.
And in its capturing of the trio’s performance at the Fillmore Miami Beach’s Jackie Gleason Theater, the upcoming PBS special Il Volo Buon Natale undoubtedly makes for a perfectly joyful end to another spectacular year for Il Volo .
We must not forget to mention also the successful tours Il Volo did in the States and LatAm in 2013, with 50 dates in the most important and prestigious cities and venues of the Americas.
The 2013 ended with the participation in the Concert of Assisi, a concert of Sacred/Christmas songs accompanied by the symphony orchestra in the frame of one of the most beautiful churches in the world, including Giotto's frescoes. This concert has been filmed and broadcast by the main Italian TV Network during the day of Christmas, after the Mass of the Pope.
On next March Il Volo took part as Special Guest to Laura Pausini’s concert in New York, held at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden to celebrate her 20-year career, among other guests like Gloria Estefan, Ivette Sangalo e Miguel Bosé.
With their recent Billboard Latin Music Award win, the US symphony tour kicking off and the Summer Italian Tour setting a double sold out concerts at Teatro Antico in Taormina,
2015 begins with a great news: Il Volo will run the race of 65th Sanremo Festival with the song Grande Amore.
The event will be followed by the EP release Sanremo Grande Amore.
Il Volo is working on the release of a new album to be published by Sony Music Latin in 53 Countries.
