Event Details
Raised in Tarrytown, NY, David Bromberg is an eclectic artist known for his proficient guitar skills and willingness to embrace a variety of musical stylings. The Greenwich Village folk scene in the mid-1960s drew David to downtown clubs and coffeehouses, where he could watch and learn from the best performers. His dynamic approach to guitar-playing earned him employment as a backing musician for an array of artists such as Tom Paxton, Jerry Jeff Walker and Rosalie Sorrels. David became a first-call guitarist for recording sessions and as the years passed he played on hundreds of records by artists including Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, and Carly Simon.
David’s strong career as a backing musician set the groundwork for a successful solo career, and he released his first solo album in 1971. He has collaborated with various musical icons on several of his albums, including George Harrison of the Beatles and various members of the Grateful Dead. David’s music, based in folk and blues but encompassing bluegrass, ragtime and country, continually expanded with each new album, leading to a Grammy nomination in 2007 for his solo album ‘Try Me One More Time.’ The recording of 2009’s ‘Use Me,’ on which David collaborated with artists
such as Levon Helm, Los Lobos and Vince Gill, can be seen in the compelling documentary ‘David Bromberg: Unsung Treasure.’
David Bromberg continues to tour and record genre-bending albums, such as 2013’s ‘Only Slightly Mad,’ which features a marriage of blues, bluegrass, gospel, folk and pop. David has been described by Jerry Jeff Walker as “the reason man created stringed instruments,” and his ability to play both rhythm and lead guitar at the same time makes him a true musical magician. The combination of guitar mastery with the ability to weave musical styles into a rich tapestry of sound makes David Bromberg an integral part of Americana music.
